Pops Cabin sits on the Llŷn Peninsula at Hafan y Môr, between Pwllheli and Criccieth, with the Wales Coast Path on the headland beside the park. Everything in this Llŷn Peninsula guide is within about 45 minutes' drive of the cabin, and most of it within 25: beaches, a castle, coast walks, boat trips, golf, a brewery and places to eat.
The Llŷn is a National Landscape with almost 100 miles of coastline, in Visit Wales's words, and most of it lies west of the cabin. Pwllheli, with its Wednesday market and marina, is about 10 minutes' drive. Llanbedrog's sheltered beach is about 20, Abersoch about 25, and Aberdaron, Porthor (Whistling Sands) and the Bardsey boats 40 to 45. Criccieth, 10 minutes the other way, has the castle and Cadwaladers ice cream, made there since 1927.
The park has its own small beach, reached down a sloped coastal path with a step at the end. Afon Wen beach is about 25 minutes' walk east along the Wales Coast Path, and westwards the sands of Abererch and Glan y Don run for more than 4 miles from Penychain to Pwllheli.
Directions to Afon Wen
No driving: the path climbs the grassy Pen-y-chain headland beside Hafan y Môr. West, it follows the beach to Pwllheli, about 5 miles. East, it turns inland at Afon Wen and passes Lloyd George's grave near Llanystumdwy before Criccieth, about 6.5 miles. The train brings you back to Penychain.
Coast Path route
About 10 minutes' drive. Criccieth Castle stands on a rocky headland between 2 beaches, with views across Cardigan Bay. Llywelyn the Great built the gatehouse; Owain Glyndŵr burnt the towers in 1404. Cadw runs it and opening days change with the season, so check before you go.

About 10 minutes' drive. Dylan's Criccieth is in the Morannedd building, a curved Art Deco landmark on the seafront a stone's throw from the beach. The menu leans on locally sourced produce from the seas and hills, in the restaurant's words, and the terrace faces straight out over Cardigan Bay.

About 15 minutes' drive, at Y Ffôr near Pwllheli. Visit Wales lists go karting, quad biking, cable wakeboarding, paddle boarding, kayaking, mini golf, archery, ten-pin bowling, fishing, clay pigeon shooting and a soft play centre. Check what is running on the day before you set off.
Glasfryn Parc
About 25 minutes' drive to the National Trust car park at Morfa Nefyn (LL53 6DA), then about 20 minutes on foot across the beach or through the golf course. Visitors cannot drive in. Tŷ Coch Inn sits on the sand and has been an inn for almost 200 years. Look out for grey seals in the bay.
Porthdinllaen (NT)
About 25 minutes' drive. Cwrw Llŷn is a purpose built brewery on the edge of Nefyn with a bar whose windows look onto the brewery, a shop, and guided tours of 45 minutes to an hour with a short film and tasters. Check opening times and book tours ahead. Morfa Nefyn's 2 mile beach is nearby.

About 30 minutes' drive. Plas yn Rhiw is a National Trust manor house with an ornamental garden and views over Porth Neigwl (Hell's Mouth), the 3 mile beach you can walk at low tide. The house is closed throughout 2026 for restoration, but the garden and tea-room are open from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

About 45 minutes' drive to the Porth Meudwy car park (LL53 8DA, past Aberdaron; sat navs can overshoot), then a 10 to 15 minute walk down to the cove. Boats run when weather and demand allow, about half an hour each way, with 4 hours on the island. A landing fee goes to the Bardsey Island Trust.

About 25 minutes' drive to Nefyn Golf Club at Morfa Nefyn: 27 holes in 3 loops of 9, with the Old course out along the headland to Porthdinllaen. Pwllheli (part links, part parkland, 15 minutes), Abersoch (18 holes, 25 minutes) and Porthmadog (heathland and links, 30 minutes) are the other 3.
